Henrietta Fire Explorer Post 401
The Henrietta Fire Explorer Post 401 is a group comprised of young men and women (age 14 to 21) who have an interest in the fire service. Through classroom and hands on drills, these explorers learn the fundamentals of firefighting including: fire suppression, search and rescue, hose line advancement, rapid gear dress techniques, vehicle extrication, ground ladders, hand tools and skills for Emergency Medical Service. They train alongside and under firefighters. The explorers also take part in helping with public relations events, fire prevention and fundraising. The Explorer’s program helps train and mentor the next generation of volunteer and career firefighters.
Henrietta Fire Explorer Post 401 was reactivated this year by advisors Charlie Remelt, Sarah Remelt, Matt Lutz, Dan Kweichen, Kyle Wilson and Jim Greene. The post filled up rapidly to its maximum of 12 members as there was a lot of interest by teens in joining the group. Currently there is a wait list to get into this very active explorer post. To be put on the wait list for Explorer Post 401, please contact any one of the advisors listed.
It was a busy and productive summer for the Explorers of the Henrietta Fire Explorer Post 401.
First the post attended Explorer Weekend at the New York State Fire Academy in Montour Falls, New York July 29-31. Nine of the twelve explorers in the post were able to attend the weekend including: Parker Remelt, Ryan Ovenshire, Ryan Holmes, Ryan O’Connor, Stephen Beechler, Steven Trumpowsky, Alex Dykes, Alyssa Posner and Matt Massaro. The Explorers learned valuable firefighting skills from State Fire Instructors and participated in drills all weekend. After just one year of training, the Post’s crowning achievement was placing third in their very first competition ever, the Monroe County Smoke, Flames and Courage Explorer Compulsory Drill competition. The event was on August 28th at the Port of Rochester Ontario Beach Park. The guys and gal worked very hard training on the drills and their hard work paid off. In addition to placing third in the county over all, they took second place in two of the drill events.
